After we found out I was pregnant, my dog would constantly lie on my belly, but would bark at my husband if he tried to touch it. I thought the dog was just jealous—but later I discovered the horrifying truth.

Loki and I had been best friends long before he came into my life—my future husband.

We shared all the important moments together: when he proposed, when I got married, and when I found out I was expecting a child.

Loki was always there—loyal, sensitive to every mood of mine, as if she were a part of me.

Things didn’t work out between her and my husband. He never showed her any interest, never fed her, played with her, or petted her. I did all of that—with love and gratitude—because this dog had been with me when there was no one else.

After we found out I was pregnant, Loki seemed to change. She discovered a favorite new activity. She constantly lay next to me, resting her head on my belly, listening to the new life growing inside.

Sometimes, when the baby kicked, she barked happily, as if celebrating with me.

But if my husband approached me and touched my belly, Loki would immediately growl, step between us, and protect me. Once, she even bit his hand. At the time, I thought she was simply jealous or trying to protect the baby.

I was wrong.

After the baby was born, I finally learned the horrifying truth—one that my dog had known long before and had been trying to warn me about, but I hadn’t paid attention…

After giving birth, one day, when my husband went to the bathroom, I picked up his phone—just to set the alarm. And by accident, I opened a conversation with his mother.

My heart froze when I read:

«I don’t want this child. She’ll choose him over me anyway. Sometimes I think how much easier it would be if he hadn’t been born. I hate him…»

I sat there, numb. And then I understood everything.

Loki had sensed his malice long before I ever saw it. She knew that my husband wanted to harm the baby.

She wasn’t just protecting me—she was guarding the life of my child.

Now, when I see my son petting her face, I think: if it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t be here.
